Perinatal Mood Disorders: Diagnosis and Treatment

September 29, 2023

11:00AM - 2:15PM

$80  -  3 CE

Perinatal mood symptoms can consist of mild changes in mood after childbirth (baby blues), or more severe symptoms that also impair daily functioning such as postpartum depression (PPD) and postpartum psychosis. Baby blues may last 1-2 weeks following childbirth and symptoms often resolve on its own, while PPD can occur any time in the first 12 months after birth and persist for up to a year. Developing strong clinical assessment is essential in providing ethical and competent care for these disorders. This training will include risk factors, symptoms, and treatment options for PPD and postpartum psychosis, to provide clinicians with diagnostic and referral support.

Learning Objectives:

- Identify risk factors for PPD and postpartum psychosis

- Identify risk factors prior, during, after pregnancy

- Explore current biopsychosocial interventions for PPD

- Identify differences in perinatal mood disorders
